Determining the Type of Company from a Tax Return

Writer: Jason SomanJason Soman

Family lawyers... have you ever picked up a business tax return and wondered what the heck is this entity?

Well you may be in luck.

On the first page of business returns, there is a box to the top left that describes a company's activities.

Check out the example below from Trump's private golf course, held by LFB Acquisition LLC (which I believe is the Bedminster, NJ club)

Sometimes, you will only get a generic description, such as "Investments" or "Real Estate".

Other times there will be a number, which is an industry code you can google under NAICS (North America Industry Classification System). In this instance, it falls under "NAICS 713900 - Other Amusement and Recreation Industries"
